Myofascial Release (MFR)

Myofascial Release (MFR)

What is Myofascial Release?

MFR is a type of physical therapy that is used to treat acute and chronic injuries.  These techniques are utilized after new injuries ranging from work injuries to sports injuries.  Regardless, they are also utilized to promote healing and prevent further losses.  These techniques also address chronic conditions including myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues. These tissues surround and support muscles in the body and pain originates from specific points called “trigger points.”

How does MFR work?

MFR is usually done through massage therapy with specific myofascial release techniques in which connective tissue and the surrounding muscles and joints can be loosened and tension can be released.

We utilize a variety of techniques including traditional massage, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM: aka Graston), trigger point work and cupping.  We work towards moving and freeing the connective tissue that runs throughout our body that connects and holds us together.  After injuries, myofascial restrictions develop, generating pain and physical limitations. MFR utilizes specific techniques to treat connective tissue and allow the surrounding muscles and joints to loosen.
